All federally recognized tribes may, if they so choose, exercise the special domestic violence criminal jurisdiction over non-Indians, recognized by the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013. However, this expanded jurisdiction, similar to the enhanced sentencing authorized by the Tribal Law and Order Act of 2010, includes numerous due process protection requirements that can be costly for a tribe to implement. There is some federal funding available to assist in this implementation, including funding for tribal courts, for law enforcement, and for victims services. This webinar will explore the Office on Violence Against Women- FY 2017 Grants to Tribal Governments to Exercise Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction, and how several of these purpose areas can be used. This webinar is offered as part of the resources of the Inter-Tribal Working Group.

Presenters:
Kelly Gaines Stoner, Victim Advocacy Legal Specialist, Tribal Law and Policy Institute
Chia Halpern, Tribal Court Specialist, Tribal Law and Policy Institute

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
