Announcement from the National Rural Institute on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, Inc., holding an event in Wisconsin, June 14-17, 2015.

Announcing our 31st annual National Rural Institute on Alcohol & Drug Abuse to be held June 14-17th @ the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin. The NRIADA conference leverages the expertise of drug and alcohol abuse treatment professionals throughout the United States to offer quality training and improve community services, particularly in rural settings. Specialists in behavioral medicine, public policy and administration, criminal justice, rural drug courts, intervention, research, advocacy, philanthropy, spirituality, and other relevant fields present mini-workshops, special topics, and track presentations for which attendees may earn continuing education credits.

As part of the NRIADA conference's welcoming reception on Sunday, June 14, Hollywood director and producer Jay Silverman will screen his award-winning film, "Girl on the Edge," followed by the opportunity for audience questions. The film is the true story of "Hannah," a troubled, self-destructive teenager whose road to addiction recovery is found at an alternative healing center with an unconventional approach to the complex problem of drug and alcohol abuse.

On Monday, June 15, keynote speaker Cardwell Nuckols, Ph.D., a widely published author and leading expert in addiction and recovery, will present "Treating the Multi-System, Multi-Problem Client: Habilitation or Rehabilitation? Working with Personality Immaturity and Nonenriched Environments."

Carol Falkowski is the Tuesday, June 16, keynote. Falkowski is the founder of Drug Abuse Dialogues, a training and policy consultation organization, and will present "Marijuana in America: The Science and the Politics."

An optional post-conference is also new in 2015, welcoming those who would like to stay Thursday, June 18, for a complimentary presentation entitled "Clinical Issues in Opioid Prescribing: Balancing Safety & Efficacy." The post-conference is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM).
