Federal Funding Opportunities for Implementing VAWA’s Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction: FY 2015 CTAS Purpose Areas #3 and #5

Join us for a webinar on Jan 20, 2015 at 12:00 PM PST / 3:00 PM EST

Beginning March 7, 2015, all federally recognized tribes will be able, if they so choose, to exercise the special domestic violence criminal jurisdiction over non-Indians, as authorized by the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013. However, this expanded jurisdiction, similar to the enhanced sentencing authorized by the Tribal Law and Order Act of 2010, includes numerous due process protection requirements that can be costly for a tribe to implement. There is some federal funding available to assist in this implementation, including funding for tribal courts, for law enforcement, and for victims services. This webinar will explore the FY 2015 Coordinate Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS), and how several of these purpose areas can be used. Representatives from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) will be on the line to answer any specific questions regarding their relevant purpose areas. This webinar is offered as part of the resources of the Inter-Tribal Working Group. This webinar will be recorded and will be available at www.ncai.org/tribal-vawa/resources/webinars<http://www.ncai.org/tribal-vawa/resources/webinars>

Presenters:
Chia Halpern Beetso, Tribal Court Specialist, Tribal Law and Policy Institute
Maha Jweied, Senior Counsel, Access to Justice Initiative, Department of Justice
Lorraine Edmo, Tribal Deputy Director, Office on Violence Against Women
Julius Dupree, Policy Advisor, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs
