The emerging practice of creating a "collaborative court" with other jurisdictions rather than to contest one another's jurisdiction is the focus of this webinar. The Honorable Abby Abinanti, Yurok Tribal Court, will discuss her successful experience in collaborating with two county courts to build a collaborative court that treats nonviolent tribal adult offenders, who have substance abuse issues. Topics include how to build capacity and expertise in your tribal court prior to approaching other jurisdictions, deciding what responsibilities to share in the criminal justice process, developing protocols to assist in transferring cases, and how to secure state court recognition of tribal court orders. Successful examples and lessons learned from the Yurok Tribe's relationship building with Del Norte and Humboldt Counties that resulted in a collaborative court will be provided.
Presenters:

* The Honorable Abby Abinanti, Chief Judge, Yurok Tribal Court

* Anthony Trombetti, Wellness Coordinator, Yurok Tribal Court

* Jolanda Ingram-Obie, Staff Attorney, Yurok Tribal Court

Moderators:

* A. Nikki Borchardt Campbell, Program Administrator, NAICJA

* Melanie P. Fritzsche, Staff Attorney, American Indian Law Center, Inc.
