Webinar: Drug Court Treatment Issues in Rural America

Date: January 29, 2014

Time: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

This webinar will focus on the special challenges encountered by drug courts and their treatment providers in rural and frontier areas of the country and solutions that have been found to be affective. The webinar is planned to be interactive with attendees invited to submit questions in advance and during the session. The webinar will also draw on a Technical Assistance Guide on Drug Court Treatment Services developed through the BJA Drug Court Technical Assistance Project soon to be published and which will be sent to all registrants prior to the webinar. The webinar panelists will consist of a multi-disciplinary team of drug court practitioners (two judges, one local drug court coordinator and two statewide drug court coordinators) from three states with many years of experience working in rural areas of the country.

Training for PL 280 Tribes: White Earth and Federal Re-Assumption Provisions of TLOA

Date: January 31, 2014

Location: Catamaran Resort

This training will focus on the provisions of the Tribal Law and Order Act (TLOA) that allow tribes, under Public Law 280 jurisdiction to request the federal government to re-assume certain criminal jurisdiction on the tribe's reservation. The morning session will include information on Public Law 280 and the TLOA followed by an afternoon presentation by the tribal representatives from the White Earth Nation, the only tribe whose request has been granted for federal re-assumption of jurisdiction under Section 221 of the TLOA. This training is for tribes that may be interested in submitting a formal request for re-assumption to the Office of Tribal Justice or are interested in learning more about the re-assumption process.



The Tribal Law and Policy Institute and California Indian Legal Services are hosting this one-day training with presentations from the White Earth Nation.
