CTAS Orientation: The Department of Justice Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS) Committee will be conducting the FY 2012 CTAS Orientation workshop on December 5, 2012. The CTAS Orientation workshop is designed to provide CTAS grant recipients with the tools and guidance necessary to implement and operate programs funded under the FY 2012 CTAS initiative. Workshop sessions will focus on topics such as: Programmatic reporting and grant management; Financial reporting and management; Grant compliance; Training and Technical Assistance resources; and Relevant initiatives and highlights from DOJ offices. Grant recipients will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with DOJ staff and TTA providers to discuss project development and implementation issues. As required under the CTAS program, grant recipients should have identified personnel in their budget to attend training events. There is no registration fee required to attend the CTAS Orientation workshop. CTAS grant recipients are authorized to use grant funds to cover travel expenses to attend the CTAS Orientation. Grant recipients should ensure that there is at least one representative for each purpose area funded under the FY 2012 CTAS. In accordance with CTAS application guidelines, grant recipients should have budgeted for at least two staff to attend training events.
 

Please work with your appropriate CTAS Purpose Area grant manager on any budget revisions, questions, or concerns regarding the use of funds for this purpose. Please confirm your attendance by contacting your program manager. Please be advised that there is no prohibition on grant recipients using grant funds to cover the cost of registration and travel for the 13th National Indian Nations Conference: Justice for Victims of Crime Conference. However, grant recipients should work with the appropriate CTAS Purpose Area grant manager on any budget revisions, questions, or concerns regarding the use of funds for this purpose.

Prosecuting Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault in Tribal Court

Please note that this preconference institute is a 2 day institute (both Tuesday December 4th and Wednesday December 5th) with Separate Registration Required. (Event will be held in the Palm Canyon A/B Room at the Hilton Hotel)
This pre-conference training is intended for Tribal and Federal prosecutors. This pre-conference training will provide general information pertinent to the prosecution of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as important trial skills and tools to improve the prosecution of domestic violence and sexual assault cases in tribal communities. Specific discussion will focus on understanding domestic violence and sexual assault in tribal communities, working with victims through the trial process, victims’ rights considerations for prosecutors, making charging decisions, specific rules of evidence and sentencing considerations.

California Tribal Court Development and Operations Technical Assistance

Please note that this preconference institute is a 3 day institute (Monday December 3rd through Wednesday December 5th) with Separate Registration Required. (Event will be held in the Tapestry Room at the Hilton Hotel)
The Tribal Judicial Institute will be offering an onsite technical assistance event for California tribes. Topics to be covered: Court Personnel, Records Management, Court Proceedings, Court Planning and Implementation. Please feel free to use your BJA training dollars in your grants to attend this technical assistance event. In addition, please encourage others within your tribal organizations and communities to attend this training as this is an event being held with sponsorship of the Department of Justice.

California Regional Training: Working Together to Increase Native Women's Safety
(Sponsored by the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center) (Event will be held at the Spa Hotel)
This training will increase the collective ability of Native women’s advocates to provide leadership and build a movement in California to increase the safety of Native women. Discussion will be grounded in the need for Native leadership to provide direction and to build a tribal grassroots movement; the evolving challenges as the movement matures and as tribal leadership engages in the struggle to remove barriers to and build safety for women; building leadership as a process of self-awareness, skill development and personal commitment.
